Melissa Werpy is a Minnesota ceramic artist and painter whose creative life has encompassed painting, textiles, murals, decorative finishes, and fine art ceramics. After years working in oil, acrylic, and pastel, she turned her attention increasingly to clay, finding in ceramics a new way to combine her love of painting, design, color, and craftsmanship.

Working from her studio on Lake Miltona, Melissa creates both wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery distinguished by vivid color and lively, nature-inspired imagery. Her gardens and the surrounding Minnesota landscape provide an ongoing source of inspiration, with flowers, birds, dragonflies, butterflies, water, and lake life finding their way onto functional and decorative pieces. Seven years spent living with her family in Brussels and Paris also broadened her artistic perspective and continue to influence her work.

For Melissa, pottery becomes another kind of canvas—one that brings painting and three-dimensional form together in objects that can be both expressive and useful.
