Introduction to Letterpress Printing with a Tabletop Press

with Todd Thyberg

November 21, 1:00 – 5:00pm
Max class size: 10

  • For artists aged 15 and up, Beginner to Intermediate

  • An introduction to relief printing on a tabletop letterpress using both linoleum blocks and photopolymer printing plates. Learn how the printing process works, how to create printing plates using a computer and uploading your files, and printing with either a photopolymer plate or linocut. Students will learn the basics of using a tabletop press, using ink and color mixing, printing, and clean up.

  • Supplies provided: Ink, paper, plates to print a notecard. Linoleum blocks will be made available to students prior to the class so they can cut their own design to print on class day.

  • Class participants are urged to dress appropriately:  Wear clothes that you're okay with getting dirty. Printing can be a messy business. Aprons are a good way to cover up your nice duds. Avoid dangling jewelry that can get caught in the press.

  • A special note from Todd: Think about what you'd like to print once you've learned the basics. I'll do my best to help you achieve that goal. Remember the press is small, so size is limited and to start with you'll just be using one color of ink.

  • Class fee: $175
