Artist of the Month

Congratulations to our June Artist of the Month - Jewett Benson

Alexandria Art Guild is pleased to feature Alexandria artist and longtime educator Jewett Benson as its Artist of the Month for June.

Benson taught art in the Alexandria school system for 34 years, teaching traditional studio arts while also introducing photography, filmmaking, and computer graphics into the curriculum. His own artwork spans watercolor, oil, and mixed media, ranging from impressionistic landscapes and florals to vibrant abstractions. His landscapes reflect the rural beauty and lakes country of central Minnesota, while his graphic works blend traditional techniques with digital media.

In addition to his work as an artist and designer, Benson collaborated with his wife Barbara to author and illustrate the children's book A is for Aeronaut, now in its third printing and available in hardcover for the first time.

The public is invited to meet the artist at a reception on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alexandria Art Guild's Visual Arts Center, located at 612 Broadway Street in downtown Alexandria. Visitors will have an opportunity to view Benson's artwork, meet the artist, and enjoy light refreshments.

The reception is free and open to the public.
