Alexandria Art Guild is pleased to recognize Ed Schmidt as our October Artist of the Month. Ed’s pastel and colored pencil artwork will be featured at the Alexandria Art Guild Visual Arts Center throughout October.
Meet the Artist — October 9
Join us for an Artist Reception on Friday, October 9, from 1–4 p.m. at the Alexandria Art Guild Visual Arts Center, 612 Broadway Street in downtown Alexandria.
Meet Ed, see his featured artwork, and learn more about the inspiration behind his landscapes and animal subjects. The reception is free and open to the public.
About Ed Schmidt
An Alexandria resident, Ed has been drawing since childhood. Growing up in North Dakota, he was encouraged in his artistic interests by his parents and later pursued formal art education at Dickinson State College in Dickinson, North Dakota.
Ed works primarily in pastel and colored pencil, creating landscapes and animal subjects. Horses hold a particular fascination for him and appear frequently in his work, from expressive portraits to scenes recalling the agricultural traditions of the Upper Midwest.
His artistic influences range from Impressionist painter Claude Monet to renowned Western artists Charles M. Russell and Frederic Remington. Drawing on these varied influences, Ed continues to pursue his own artistic path and personal approach to the animals and landscapes that inspire him.
Ed has exhibited his work at Art of the Lakes Gallery in Battle Lake and is an active member of the Alexandria Art Guild. He is currently serving his second year on the Guild’s Board of Directors and also serves as Facility Manager, helping care for and maintain the Guild’s Visual Arts Center.
