Kathy Grundei


Kathy Grundei opened Artscape Studio in 2015 (101 Nokomis Street, Studio #4, Alexandria, MN), where she creates and sells her work. She also participates in art crawls, studio tours, and both solo and group exhibitions. With a second home in Medina, MN, she has exhibited throughout the Twin Cities.

Kathy holds an art degree from St. Cloud State University and an M.Ed. from Hamline University. She taught art in K–12 schools for 35 years and later served as an Art Education Program Specialist with the Perpich Center for Arts Education, working with districts across Minnesota to integrate the arts into curriculum and develop standards-based programs.

Her many honors include Faculty Emerita from The Blake School, Minnesota Art Educator of the Year, Minnesota Elementary Art Educator of the Year, Middle School Teacher of the Year, Distinguished Service for Arts Education, and a Distinguished Alumni Award from St. Cloud State University. She continues to teach through Alexandria Community Education and in her studio.

Among her most impactful contributions, Kathy co-chaired the development of Minnesota’s state arts standards in visual art, dance, music, and theater, guiding them through legislative approval. She has also served on numerous arts panels, including as a board member of the Minnesota Alliance for the Arts and President of Art Educators of Minnesota.
